Published on 21-2-2024:

Dear Babboe cargo bike or tricycle owner,

On Monday, February 19, we received a statement from the Dutch bicycle and cargo tricycle manufacturer Babboe.

The original email, translated by Google, says like this:

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) stated today (Monday, February 19) that the company has not been able to provide sufficient information to demonstrate that certain models do not pose a safety risk. Therefore, it is necessary to suspend the sale of these models.

As a precautionary measure, Babboe has decided to temporarily suspend the sale of all Babboe cargo bikes in all countries. We advise customers not to use their bicycles.

Babboe and NVWA will remain in dialogue to ensure that the requested information is delivered as quickly as possible so that sales can resume. At the moment, we are in consultation with the NVWA.

We will keep you informed as soon as we can.

At the moment we do not have any further information from Babboe, and we can only follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

We also provide you with the information published directly by the NVWA on this matter, at the link below. The content is in Dutch, but you can view the translated page in your browser.

https://www.nvwa.nl/nieuws-en-media/nieuws/2024/02/14/nvwa-babboe-moet-handel-bakfietsen-staken

At the moment the only recommendation we can provide to you as a user of a Babboe bicycle is to temporarily stop using it until we have more information.

Furthermore, those owners/users who have ceased to be owners are recommended to contact the new owners/users (second-hand buyers, etc.) to pass on the information provided. For those users who are thinking about selling it, do not do so without proper warning to the buyer.

We are waiting for the following communications from Babboe to be able to answer all the questions that arise in this situation.

As soon as we have more information, we will communicate it in this way and also directly to buyers of Babboe bicycles and tricycles who have purchased them through 3ike, by email, Whatsapp and/or telephone.
